Please set aside all
preconceived notions about your memory and your ability
to learn so that you
can have an open mind and allow this learning experience
to change you into
an extraordinary person. You already have a photographic
memory with the
ability to instantly recall images of everything you have ever
experienced
in life; you simply need to learn how to use it. Relax and feel
confident in
knowing that you will experience a change that will enable you to do
what
you might have once thought was impossible.
I know what you might be thinking: How can that be
possible? I have a
terrible memory! Trust me. Eliminate the entire negative
self-talk and read this
book as if you were taking a journey into a land
that has never been explored
before. You will be amazed with the newfound
power of your mind and you will
amaze others too. I have provided exercises,
which are designed to ensure your
success, so please take your time with
them until you have mastered the
concept. It is necessary to complete all of
the exercises and practice sessions in
order to benefit fully from this
book.
Start by doing what is necessary,
then do what is possible,
and suddenly you are doing the
impossible.
–St. Francis of Assisi
The effort you put forth is of the utmost
importance. In any endeavor, you
reap what you sow; therefore, practice,
practice, and practice! Soon you will
put your photographic memory to work
and experience effortless recall.
I told you that you already have a
photographic memory and you might still
be curious to know exactly
what I meant by that. I can appreciate that and I
will reveal the meaning
through reference to a classic story we are all familiar
with: The Wizard of
Oz. In The Wizard of Oz, the lion desired courage, the
tin-man desired a
heart, and the scarecrow desired a brain, but the essence of
this story
proved that they each already had all of these things, and all that
they
really needed was someone to reveal this to them. Dorothy did a splendid
job
with her fervent determination when the Wizard of Oz turned out to be a
fake
and a failure himself.
Therefore, as in the story,
Wizard of Oz, I will reveal to you some powers
you already possess and show
you how to make this self-discovery in order to use
that which your creator
has blessed you with already. Therefore, let’s begin
with a short exercise, then you will explore how you
remember and exactly where your memory
exists.
Let's try some recall in
order to provide you with an exercise in memory.
Remember an incident from
sometime in your distant past that was pleasant, such
as a birthday party or
graduation ceremony. Include all of the people who were
present and what
they were wearing; remember the time of day, the place, the
sounds you heard
and whether it was sunny or overcast. Replay the entire seen
in as much
detail as you can. After you have recalled this memory in all of its
detail,
think about where it came from. Did it grow from a brain cell and
multiply into an enormous picture in your mind's eye? Did you see the images
with your optic nerve? Did the images come from a specific area of your
brain? As
you were putting together the sounds, colors and other images, did
you have
to get these things from different areas of your brain? Did it take
you a long
time to arrange all of the details, or did they simply appear
instantaneously?
Is it possible all of this vivid sensory detail came from
someplace outside
of your brain and perhaps distant from
you?
I hope the last question above aroused your
curiosity, because born out
of that question reiterates the very theory
behind Virtual Memory For Humans .
In order to develop your virtual memory,
it is not necessary to know the
answers to any of the above questions, but
it will be helpful to remember the last
question about where the memory
resides because you will need a place to store
the things you wish to
remember. And that is the key to having a virtual
memory: having a storage
place or location to put things you wish to remember.
This might sound
strange to you, but bear with me as you will explore further
when you get to
chapter four.
